Dubarry of Ireland

In 1937, in the heart of Galway on the west coast of Ireland, a cooperative society was established to create jobs in a small town called Ballinasloe.

A joint venture between the local Chamber of Commerce and a family from Northampton, the cradle of English shoe production. Looking for a European touch to differentiate them from similar Irish brands, the company was named in honor of the beautiful French courtesan and mistress of Louis XV, Madame du Barry. Dubarry of Ireland was born.

The exacting skills of local artisans quickly earned Dubarry a reputation for excellent workmanship in the design and manufacture of fine leather shoes. Then, over the years, increasingly inspired by the wild west coast and the great sailing heritage of the Galway area, Dubarry began to specialize in the manufacture of leather deck shoes and moccasins.

As part of an ongoing rigorous product development program, Dubarry explored other environments in which footwear was demanding. This is how the iconic Galway boot was designed in the mid-1990s.

Dubarry created a pop-up store to demonstrate the unique benefits of The Country Boot to its customers. Dubarry's famous 'man in a bucket' was unveiled at Syon Park West London in 2000 at a national fair, to great acclaim!

The shoe collection quickly expanded to bags, shoe accessories and leather goods. The first outdoor clothing collection followed, including unique tweeds inspired by Irish tartan patterns and women's shirts launched in 2007.

In 2010, GORE-TEX lined cotton coats appeared, followed by oiled cottons, sweaters and pants.

In 2010, Dubarry opened a subsidiary based in Oxfordshire, England, before creating Dubarry USA in Pennsylvania and Dubarry Europe in Utrecht in 2013.
