Alan Paine
When Tweedchasse was founded in September 2011, Alan Paine was one of the first brands we distributed. This company was founded in 1907 by William Paine in Godalming, Surrey, England. He himself started making cable-knit sweaters with a machine found in a warehouse. The business began to grow. William's sweaters began to be produced in various colors, attracting a larger number of customers. During the decade 1920-1930, the Prince of Wales, who would become Edward VIII, took a liking to Paine's products. He became the most prestigious patron. In 1940, the company manufactured sweaters for the British army. It had 400 employees in Godalming and 200 in Wales. In the 1950s, William's son, Alan, took over. The company was renamed Alan Paine, as the name "Godalming" was deemed difficult for American customers to pronounce.
The company passed through the hands of various owners before landing in the hands of James Hinton in 2006, who remains the owner today. He is also a former employee of the company, having joined Alain Paine in 1986 as a salesman. A remarkable social ascent.
Today, Alan Paine offers one of the most extensive collections on the market. Its English style, chic and timeless, is beyond dispute. Its impressive range of products also maintains very high quality. If you love tweed, you'll be well served! For you, Tweedchasse has selected shooting vests, knickers, caps, coats, and sweaters.
